Chong-Tin Tan (Malaysia)

Dr Tan graduated with MBBS from the University of Melbourne in 1972. He received training in Neurology in the Royal Hospital, Sheffield, and the National Hospital, London, UK. He is presently the Professor and Head, Division of Neurology, University of Malaya. Dr Tan is instrumental in building up the Neurology Division of the University of Malaya and the training of many Malaysian neurologists. He has also helped to initiate and build many neurological institutions in the Asian region. He has served as President of the Malaysian Society of Neurosciences (1999-2002), Chairman of the ASEAN Neurological Association (1999-2001), is the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of the Neurology Asia (formerly Neurological Journal of South East Asia) from 1996.
Dr Tan has been a member of the Commission on Asian and Oceanian Affairs, ILAE since 1997, and chairman of the Commission from 2001-2006. He has been a member of Asian Epilepsy Academy (ASEPA) from 2003, and is currently the chairman. ASEPA is the educational arm of the Commission. As a member of the Commission and Academy, Dr Tan has helped to build an active educational program in the Asia and Oceanian region, including workshops in various parts of the region, and fellowships for young aspiring epileptologists. He was awarded Ambassador for from ILAE and IBE in 2005. He is currently Vice-President of the ILAE.
