Susanne Lund (Sweden)

As Chief Executive Director (CEO) of the Swedish Epilepsy Association I have been heavily involved in the development of the Swedish association to the position where we now have 6 000 members and 60 local branches. I have been responsible for the initiation and implementation of various nation-wide activities including public education campaigns, production of printed materials, fund-raising and healthcare issues – all important for people with epilepsy. During the last six years I have been the Editor of our association magazine, which means having responsibility from the start right through to printing. As CEO of an epilepsy association in the Nordic Region, I have also been involved in establishing the Nordic Epilepsy Committee, whose other members are Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Norway.
I have been a member of the IBE Public Education Commission since 1997 and its chair since 2001. I am also IBE Vice President with responsibility for Communications, which includes the IE News (as Editor), the IBE website and other IBE publications. Since 2003 I have been a member of the Management Group of EUCARE, a project which I find very exciting.
Journalism is my area of special expertise; producing magazines, brochures and other graphic materials is a favourite of mine. I also have a particular interest in safety issues in the home.
I live outside Stockholm with my husband, Lars, a neurologist with special interest in epilepsy, and our son Andreas, aged 14. Being CEO takes a lot of time, but in my free time I enjoy reading, playing badminton, skating, seeing friends or family, or just relaxing in the garden (if it is not snowing!)
I believe IBE has tremendous potential and I hope to be involved in its future development with valuable support and assistance from other individuals, epilepsy organisations and institutions world-wide.
